Titanic Belfast design by OPERA Amsterdam

We produced this impressive scale model for Titanic Belfast, the visitor attraction which tells the story of RMS Titanic located on the historic slipways where the ship was built and launched in 1912. The hanging and turning model is almost 8m long and contains more than 450m individually controllable LED that helps telling the intriguing story.

Our metal and science department played the biggest role in the production of the ship:
Welder Ahmad spent days fitting pieces of perforated metal to the skeleton of the ship. Because of the double curvature of the hull this turned out to be quite a fiddly challenge.
Our 3D printers also were putting in a lot of hours printing all kinds of details such as the lifeboats and propellers. The masts of the ship were assembled using fishing rods.

The complete production and assembly was done in our workshop in the north of Amsterdam. Only after everything was mounted and thoroughly tested we disassembled the four pieces and made our way to Belfast for the installation. The ship is now part of the permanent exhibition of the attraction.
